Trip Registration

Step-By-Step!
-
To participate in a GMT brigade, you must be a current, paid member of GMT and an active student at UTA. Membership is open to all UTA students regardless of major or year. Being an active member means you're engaged with GMT throughout the year—attending GBMs, participating in fundraisers or volunteer events, and showing up to the workshops.
-
From September through December, we run two workshops per month (eight total) covering the clinical foundations you'll need on a brigade. These aren't optional. Workshops build sequentially—each one assumes you attended the previous ones. You'll learn patient history and physical exam skills, how to assess common conditions in resource-limited settings, medication management, and clinical decision-making. Workshop attendance and your level of engagement (asking questions, participating in practice scenarios, thinking critically) directly factor into your selection. Show up, engage, and you'll build real skills. Skip workshops and you'll be at a disadvantage when we review applications.
-
In early January, you'll apply for trip attendance. We'll evaluate your application alongside your workshop and GBM attendance. If you're selected, we'll invite you for a brief interview with our officer board—this is where we assess your clinical curiosity, commitment to GMT's mission, and fit with the team. After the interview, selected candidates receive a registration code. This code is your access to pay for the trip and lock in your spot. Without it, you can't register. Payment is due one month before the trip departure date. A $200 deposit is required at this stage, securing your place on the team and covering preliminary expenses.
Here’s What You Need to Do:
Fill Out the Registration Form: Look for the trip of interest and ensure it is sponsored by UTA (University of Texas Arlington)
Pay the estimated $200 Deposit: If you are a returning tripper, contact an officer for a 20% off discount!
Confirmation: You’ll receive a confirmation email. REMEMBER YOUR REGISTRATION CODE. You will need it to later pay the rest of the registration.
Note: The deposit is non-refundable and counts toward your total trip cost.
-
Once you have your registration code and have paid for the brigade, you're responsible for booking and paying for your own flights. We'll provide you with the exact travel dates and recommended airports. You can book through any airline or travel platform. Start looking early as cheaper fares are available 2-3 months out. We recommend using flexible (refundable) tickets in case logistics shift, and we'll provide guidance on what to look for (flight times, layovers, luggage allowance). Don't book until you've confirmed your spot with your registration code and full payment.
-
As the trip approaches, it’s time to get ready! We'll send you detailed logistics about where you're staying, what to bring, and what to expect on the ground. You'll also participate in a final pre-departure workshop covering cultural orientation, local healthcare systems, team expectations, and safety protocols specific to the country.
